Another shorter week with Easter Monday bank holiday, but some satisfying progress, including a successful test drive.
WEALD FOUNDATION SD.KFZ.223 AUSF.A (3. SERIE)
After all the recent work, we took the Sd.Kfz.223 out for a test drive. The clutch is now perfect, very smooth, and the vehicle sounded really good. However, we noticed a misfire.
It didn’t take long to diagnose: one of the spark plugs had failed. We replaced it and carried out some fine tuning to make sure the engine wasn’t running too rich. We then took it out again, and this time it was perfect. Sounded amazing and drove beautifully. Ready for show season.
STURMGESCHÜTZ III
The radiator saga is finally over. After fitting it last week and discovering a pinhole leak, we had to remove it once more and return it to the specialist. It’s now back, fitted, filled, and tested: no leaks.
The team spent Friday refitting the fan and all the other parts that had been removed. We’re hoping to test the engine next week.
We’ve also greased all the grease nipples on the wheels and running gear in preparation for running. Interestingly, one side of the vehicle took a large amount of grease while the other didn’t, suggesting one side may not have been properly greased during the last maintenance.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week we’ll continue the Sturmgeschütz III maintenance and possibly begin a bit of spring clean, as we’ll be moving another project into the main workshop. More on that very soon.
