A productive shorter week, with Good Friday bank holiday, across all three active projects, plus a breakthrough in our Jagdpanther research.
WEALD FOUNDATION SD.KFZ.223 AUSF.A (3. SERIE)
Reassembly continues. The firewall, turret, rollers, and interior brackets have all been fitted. The vehicle is now back together as it was before – looking ready once again.
The seats have returned from being copied by a specialist for the Wheatcroft Collection vehicle. We’re now researching the correct placement for the Balkenkreuz markings so they can be painted accurately.
We’re still waiting on the dynamo, but have decided to reassemble the vehicle fully regardless. It’s not critical for now, and completing the rebuild allows us to create space in the workshop.
Australian LP1
The aluminium heads have now been machined and polished.
The engine block has been primed to prevent any corrosion returning. Martin has started boring the cylinders to clean out any remaining corrosion, which will tell us what oversize pistons we need to order.
STURMGESCHÜTZ III
The radiator returned from the specialist on Thursday with a new core fitted. We connected it with new hoses, ready to test next week.
Unfortunately, when Alex filled the radiator with water, he detected a new small leak – this time at the top. So the radiator will be coming out again for another repair. On the positive side, this also gives us the opportunity to order paint and get it painted correctly. More updates next week.
RESEARCH UPDATE
A new breakthrough this week in our Jagdpanther research. We now know the unit to which Jagdpanther 411 was allocated within the 116. Panzer Division. Full details are available in our latest Inside Track article for members.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week is, again, shorter due to the Easter bank holidays. We’ll tackle the radiator leak on the Sturmgeschütz III and continue work on the LP1.
