A shorter week with Monday’s bank holiday, but good progress across both Sd.Kfz.223 projects and the Jagdpanther.
WEALD FOUNDATION SD.KFZ.223 AUSF.A (3. SERIE)
The vehicle is being cleaned after Militracks, and we’ll be looking into a slight knock we noticed while running it at the show. We had heard this before and carried out some work to address it, but with the long runs at Militracks it became clear the problem is still there. Further investigation is needed.
Martin has also been drawing the aerial mount missing from the rear of the vehicle. We’ll be manufacturing this from photographs of originals and measurements taken from a surviving example.
THE WHEATCROFT COLLECTION SD.KFZ.223
Terry has painted the Balkenkreuz markings, the later style with the black centre, which is correct for the period this vehicle is being assembled to represent.
The seats are now fitted, and the leather gaiters, collected earlier today, have all been fitted as well.
JAGDPANTHER
The engine deck is back on. With all the recent magneto and carburettor work complete, the engine is now running very well, the team says it’s running better than it ever has. We’ll be running it properly once we have some more fuel.
RESEARCH UPDATE
We’ve also begun advancing our research on the history of the Sd.Kfz.250/3 Ausf.B and other areas of the vehicle. With all the parts now ready in the workshop, the project will start very soon, and we’ll be sharing articles about its history in due course.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week we have the Jagdpanther test run planned, and we’ll begin investigating the knock on the Weald Foundation Sd.Kfz.223. We’ll also be finalising the last details for Tankfest 2026, including running through the Sturmgeschütz III to make sure all equipment and fittings are in order.
