Sd.Kfz 222 4 Serie, Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie, Sd.Kfz 261 5 Serie, Sd.Kfz 250,

The last of the axles and metal rubber bushes have been fitted to the suspension damper arm assemblies of the 3 Serie Sd.Kfz 223. The rims for the armoured car have been identified (with some required) and are being disassembled and blasted. This will be completed next week. See this week’s article in Inside Track to follow the detail behind these discoveries.

The lubrication system network involving hubs, olives and general fittings are being cleaned and prepared for the 3 Serie Sd.Kfz 223. All paint and rust is being removed from these vital parts and the pipework is being prepared simultaneously for the project. There are a number of small fittings which will need to be sourced from our stores to complete the set up. This should be well down the road by the end of next week given the focus of the team. This will continue to be covered in Inside Track – our online magazine for those requiring the detail behind the discoveries.

The Sd.Kfz 222 continues to receive focus especially in conservation of the original paint on the chassis and original fittings. This is the second effort in which conservation is playing a large part – the last was the work done on the original paint and markings of the side car boat of the Zundapp KS750. Removing the post war layers to reveal the original grey black layer. This work is very time consuming but the end result is simply fantastic (see main image). The main image is of the centre of the chassis showing just how much (or how little) paint has survived underneath the successive layers of bright incorrect paint.

More collection results this week with internal parts for our Ausf.A Sd.Kfz 250. Quite amazing what parts we are slowly managing to gather over time. Time is what we have given the projected time slot for the 2 Sd.Kfz 250s (an Ausf.A and a B) beyond the Sdk.Kfz 222, Sd.Kfz 223 and Sd.Kfz 261 and the South African Reconnaissance ‘Marmon Herrington’ MkIII projects.

The Sd.Kfz 261 wheel nuts are currently under focus with us having recently discovered a number of original examples. We are unlikely to find more of these but will persevere. This ongoing quest is also to be covered in inside track.
