Good progress on Sd.Kfz.223 and rare parts for Australian LP1 Carrier

The antenna supports have continued to receive focus this week. We are now dealing with the fittings for the 4 legs supporting the antenna frame. These are made up of various components and materials and there have been stops along the way to resolve aberrations or breaks in what our understanding of what is correct for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. The first 2 rear fenders have been rivetted on to their frames. This has taken quite some effort as the fenders are original and full of character. We have also checked on the progress of the Riemann headlamp lenses project for the armoured cars this week. Good progress which is covered in this week’s Inside Track journal.

The long awaited visor windscreen fitting for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie was finally completed this week. The work required and description of this special windscreen is covered in an article in this week’s Inside Track journal. The windscreen has now been fitted into its final home to the left of the driver.

Our most recent group of parts from Australia for the Australian Local Pattern Carrier (LP1) arrived this week. These include 3 Vickers MG No.8 Mk1 ammunition cases, a jack and a repro rations tin. We are still awaiting information from contacts in Australia for parts and areas in focus for the project.

The acid etched plates for the le.Pz.Sp.Wg. German armoured cars are now with us. This represents the lion share of those required for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie and Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. We will require a few more once we have reached the final assembly point for both Sd.Kfz.223.
