SARC MK III ‘Marmon-Herrington’, Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie, Sd.Kfz.223 3 Serie, Sd.Kfz.261 5 Serie

Good progress this week on the wheel nuts for all of the various armoured cars currently under restoration. We have a good number of original wheel nuts for all of the armoured cars but these will make the job of fitting the wheels so much easier. The wheel nut variety for the early 801 chassis are now all here as are those for the 5 Serie 801 Typ v chassis. All of the hooks are also now in hand for the 3 armoured cars after being brought here earlier this week. Major result in securing a key component of the Sd.Kfz 261 communications network. This will be covered in a forthcoming Inside Track piece. A lot of this week has been spent examining the requirements for the second Horch 3.5 litre V8 engine block. We require this block now that the chassis will be finished by the end of July once the team is back. The remainder of the components for the lubrication system have arrived. This is not only for the Sd.Kfz.223 but also for the Sd.Kfz 222. Everything is now in hand for the Sd.Kfz.222 for this one shot system. More items were delivered to our pattern maker. These items are the last remaining components required for the Sd.Kfz 223 and a key component for the 5 Serie Sd.Kfz.261 3.8 litre V8 engine. We have at last determined the exact radio fitting required for our Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie. This research is covered in this week’s Inside Track.

We have hopefully had a major stroke of luck this week when we secured a photograph album and training aids for the SARC Marmon Herrington. This should add to the definitive paint analysis of the earlier MK III. Quite the odyssey which should now be over!

The new workshop is currently being fitted with a new toilet and kitchen facility in readiness for the team’s return in July. This will be very useful for all events here at the Foundation and will provide dedicated facilities for all events held here . The new large lather arrives next week. Space has been made for it within the workshop.
