Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie Ausf A, VW166 Schwimmwagen, Sd.Kfz 222 4 Serie, Sd.Kfz 261 5 Serie, SITREP event

The 5 Serie Sd.Kfz 261 chassis made further progress this week as Dick continued to transform what was a throw away section of the chassis. The front of the chassis was seriously corroded with large holes everywhere. Each individual corroded area was cut out and replaced with original chassis material. The end result is looking very good. There remains a further week of work on the chassis before it can be welded together fully and sent back for dipping and coating.

The Brittany Sd.Kfz 223 chassis has been primed, some further repairs have been completed on the chassis having been made visible after the dipping process. An original engine mount has been repaired and primed. The chassis has been set up in the workshop pending an application of the top coat for which we are awaiting the paint analysis results from Lincoln Conservation.

The VW166 Schwimmwagen hull number has been found. We will now be able to bookend it (chronologically position) using other known original examples to determine its exact internal and internal finish. This hull number has been at bay for months now until today!!

Thursday and Friday have involved the whole team in getting everything ready for tomorrows SITREP event here at the Weald Foundation – gardening, cleaning and organising the displays and reception areas in preparation for our guests tomorrow.
