Sd.Kfz.223 3 Serie, Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie, SARC 'Marmon Herrington' Mk III, CNC Vertical Machine Centre

24 Jul 2020

The conservation work on the Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie continues. The results continue to be impressive yet the speed, given how painstaking the task is, is slow. The first wheel station now has its new bearings ready for reassembly once the work is finally complete.

Work on the 4 Serie Sd.Kfz.223 chassis of the Wheatcroft Collection is moving ahead quickly. The majority of fittings for the chassis interior have now been fitted. Focus now is on fitting the metal rubber bushes to the shock absorber linkage arms. The old metal rubber bushes have been difficult to remove and have required heat to shift the metal exterior of the bushes from the housings. The frame and parts already installed have been blasted and primed. Much repair and correction to internal chassis fittings has been required on the parts prior to fitting.

The SARC 'Marmon Herrington' Mk III have been the beneficiary of a substantial breakthrough this week. The paint treatment of both armoured cars has not only been fully resolved but the tactical provenance of both cars has been cracked. Read this week's Inside Track for all the detail behind these discoveries.

We are currently looking to acquire a CNC vertical machine centre for our machine/assembly shop. We have been exploring the correct machine to be able to take care of the range of large sized objects requiring machining including engine blocks. This development, once complete, will transform our current operations. We will have some news on the progress in this direction soon. The large lathe acquired recently has already provided key service on some operations. We have also acquired many fittings required for our machining operations as well recently in one of the many auctions that are currently being held due to the sell off of material due to restructuring of industry in the wake of Covid 19.
