Sd.Kfz 223 Ausf A 3 Serie, Zundapp KS750, Stoewer Einheits PKW Typ 40,

15 Nov 2019

Focus returned to the Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie of Brittany heritage. Research into the fittings for the chassis beginning with the brackets for fixing the armoured hull to the chassis. We are almost finished with the study and will complete it next week. The next focus were the hinges for the Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie. These are very specific to this Serie. Follow Inside Track to see this research develop. The metal straps which fix the brackets in turn to the chassis also received focus. A wider examination of all the artefacts within the archive and collection here have added actual examples to the mix making what appeared to be a very complex a little easier. The hull reassembly will continue next week.

Doors are being gathered to be allocated to the Sd.Kfz 223, Sd.Kfz 222 and the Sd.Kfz 261. Hinges for all are also being identified to accurately set for all three armoured cars. Differences abound. This is a very exciting phase...

We have had to replace our plasma cutter and purchase a magnetic 2 phase drill. The drill is critical for holes to be drilled into sloped and large sections of plate.

The roof on the main building has been completed together with guttering and insulation. The temperature inside is a revelation when compared to the past. Another shed is being completely stripped and rebuilt using double skinned insulated panels. This is being done to the roof and wall sections. A 3 door roller shutter insert is next on the to do list once the roof and walls are in place. This work will enable the collection to extend out of the 2 halls currently and will provide accommodation for our armoured cars German and South African Marmon Herrington MKIIIs when complete.

The magneto and carburettor for the Zundapp KS750 are currently receiving attention. Re winding the magneto and re magnetising the magneto is in the cards for next week. The carburettor is being checked just in case. All the above is being done to ensure the magnificent machine runs perfectly.

The long standing issue with the Stoewer carburettor has been resolved. Countless re soldering of the float had resulted in an overweight leaky float. The solder was all removed. The float was repaired and the 2 halves re soldered together clean. She now runs very well.
