Sd.Kfz 223 Ausf A, South African Reconnaissance Car Mk III ‘Marmon Herrington’, Australian LP1

The work on repairing the chassis for our Brittany Sd.Kfz 223 is now complete. All the welding of the front of the chassis and all the spring retainer points which had cracked and the complicated rear arrangement are all in good shape now. The brake drums, back plates and and suspension wishbones are now sand blasted. One of the suspension wishbones requires welding attention given that it is damaged. All of these items will be primed on Monday. The gearbox for the armoured car has been disassembled and is now being cleaned in the parts washer and will be pressure washer cleaned next week.

The 4 Serie Sd.Kfz 222 chassis and radiator shroud, Sd.Kfz 223 turret interior have had samples taken by our paint conservation expert from Lincoln Conservation. The results for these and the interior and exterior of the Australian Local Pattern Carrier (LP1) and our two South African Reconnaissance Car ‘Marmon Herrington’ Mk III will be available in due course. This is very exciting as we have no other basis upon which to establish the paint treatment for these key parts and iconic vehicles.

Work on providing a major refit of the Weald Foundation premises has started. The first phase is the roof of the main vehicle park and workshop. Scaffolding is now in place awaiting the roofing next week.

Have a good weekend!!!
