SdKfz 261, Zundapp KS750, SARC Marmon Herrington MK III, SdKfz 222, SdKfz 223, Australian Local Pattern Carrier LP1

05 Apr 2019

Our research team is progressing well on the South African Reconnaissance Car Marmon Herrington MK IIIs. They have now identified the modifications within the MK III range and have grouped the vehicles into type within the range to aid classification. This is exactly the same process we have utilised for the Renault FT ad TSF and the German vehicles. We are awaiting the paint analysis date for these two armoured cars by our conservation partner at Lincoln Conservation.

We are planning to get the Australian Local Pattern Carrier analysed by the paint conservators at the same time. There is still much of the original paint on the vehicle and should prove sensible to get this analysis done at the same time.

The chassis for the SdKfz 261 is progressing well. This involves a lot of repair and replacement given the poor condition of this rare artefact. Current work is concentrated on the cross members within the chassis. The rear cross member is particularly complicated given the number of angles involved. This is nearing completion. The next attention will shift to the front section of the chassis which is in poor condition and will therefore take quite some time to complete.

The Zundapp KS750 project continues. The paint conservation project has been completed. The rust was removed with a spectacular gel and was washed off followed by an application of a resin based product that will protect the remaining paint and restrict corrosion from here on. The sidecar heating - all original - has been fitted. The fuel tank has been cleaned and lined with an ethanol protective agent and is to be collected on Monday. Next week will see the tank primed and painted and fitted. The sidecar boar should also be fitted successfully next week. Then , who knows, drive.....
