A busy week of preparation, investigation, and some exciting news for members.
‘Black Sea’ STURMGESCHÜTZ III
We pumped out the old fuel – likely from years ago when the vehicle was last moved – as it was smoking and having trouble starting. With fresh fuel in, it’s now running much better.
Alex also re-adhered the engine hatch seals, which had degraded over time.
JAGDPANTHER 411
When we started the Jagdpanther last week to move it for the StuG work, it began popping – and it was getting increasingly worse.
This week we removed the engine deck to gain access to the ignition system, which we suspect is where the fault lies. One side looks fine, but the plugs on the other side are wet – pointing to one of the magnetos. Hopefully it’s just a condenser that’s broken down, as these are a common problem. More updates next week.
COLLECTION REARRANGEMENT
We’ve been rearranging the collection to allow for future projects and to prepare for upcoming visits. The display hall was getting crowded, and this will give us a much better arrangement for tours and our Members Open Day.
A NEW PROJECT ARRIVES
We’re excited to announce that a project which has been on hold for a very long time is finally moving to the main workshop: our Sd.Kfz.250/3 Ausf.B – the Funkpanzerwagen (radio command vehicle).
This is a continuation of previous work, and we believe members will be very excited to follow its progress.
RESEARCH UPDATE
Our Sd.Kfz.223 Balkenkreuz research continues. We now have detailed information on exactly where these markings should be painted, along with other details.
LOOKING AHEAD
Busy times ahead. We’re preparing for our Spring Members Open Day on 8 May, followed a week later by Militracks 2026, where our Sd.Kfz.223 Ausf.A 3.Serie will be attending. Alongside this, we’ll continue investigating the Jagdpanther and getting the Sd.Kfz.250/3 settled into the workshop.
